Joe Albany was a wonderful guy and, at times, frighteningly - TopicsExpress

Joe Albany was a wonderful guy and, at times, frighteningly briiliant pianist, and we were pretty close for a while, but like a number of others of that musical generation he was a flame just waiting to burn out (Barry Harris told me, correctly, I think, that this group of players was just too dependent on Bird, and that when he was gone they drifted and suffered and drifted some more); there is something a bit traumatic about watching, in cinematic or literary time, a life whose inevitable tragedy you can predict from memory; so I dont think Ill go see this, but it looks worthwhile just the same; because, on the other hand, I do think the creative energy of that post-war generation of beboppers is constantly misunderstood and mis-interpreted, and one of the few things with motivates me in any true and deep sense: youtube/watch?v=lXFi2KoREW4
