Joe Arpaio, Sheriff of Maricopa County, Arizona, has for some years forced male prison inmates to wear pink underwear, presumably to try to humiliate them. His latest stunt is to remove meat from the prison diet, and replace it with soy products myfoxphoenix/story/23481704/2013/09/20/mcso-jails-go-vegetarian). Soy products are known to contain high levels of estrogen-like isoflavones, which many contend can lead to feminisation of males ingesting them. Given Arpaios pink-underwear humiliation program, I think it is highly likely that this crackpot sheriff from Arizona is now trying to further humiliate his inmates by forcing them to eat a diet rich in feminising hormones. I am guessing that nothing would make Arpaio happier than for his inmates to all grow a nice set of boobs to really humiliate them. Pink underwear may be kinda funny, but is basically harmless. Screwing around with the inmates hormones to change their bodies is entirely different. It will be very interesting to see whether any of the inmates will challenge their new diet based on violations of their human rights, which I believe this clearly is.
