Not since the days of “War of the Worlds” in the 1930s has local news media so misrepresented dramatization and satire causing a public safety scare. The fact that organizations such as PETA can send reporters into a panic to broadcast such a serious allegation as my having TB or any another other contagious disease, and that I would allow such a disease to infect the people or animals at this park is a disgrace. How is it an organization such as PETA, which reported last year to the Department of Agriculture for the State of Virginia that it had killed 82.4 % of it’s animals, can have such influence over the news media? Neither I nor this park was contacted prior to media reports Wednesday suggesting the park be quarantined for public safety. A simple phone call would have brought to light that my Joe Exotic Facebook page is an extention of the daily LIVE webcast shows I broadcast that are satire and dramatization based. Disclaimers bearing large simple print clearly point that out before every show. The reports airing slanderous and libelous accusations about me and my health and my possible lack of concern for others safety are unacceptable. And I am demanding an on-air retraction of the story. This park welcomes any reporter to come and ask any questions they like at anytime. But one sided journalism painting the park or myself in a bad light will met with legal action.
