Joe completed his 5th session of the NRN / OT program today. The improvement in just five sessions is so incredibly encouraging. During the treadmill sessions, his legs are moved through the full walking motion with various amounts of weight on his legs. The machine is able to carry between all and none of his weight - 100% to 0% assist. Most of the workouts run between 40% and 60% of Joes body weight on his legs. Each session lasts about an hour and fifteen minutes on the treadmill. While Joes left leg has been more active and mobile for some time, when he arrived not even his left leg could make full step. Then, a couple of sessions ago, Joes left leg made several slow, tentative but full steps! It was very emotional for mom and dad and Joe was very pleased. Joes right leg just didnt respond very much. Today, at the beginning of therapy (when his legs were still fresh), Joe made several full steps with his left AND right leg! It was so awesome to watch. I will post a couple of videos in a few minutes. You can see Joes infectious smile in one of them. This Christmas Eve, we are so thankful to be together as a family, to be here at Craig Hospital, that Joe is a part of the NRN Program and for our amazing therapy staff. We are truly blessed!
