Joe has started a new and very excited journey this week. One week - TopicsExpress

Joe has started a new and very excited journey this week. One week ago, on Wednesday, December 10, Joe successfully completed his first term at Oregon State. There were many challenges along the way, but none that Joe was not determined to overcome. On Friday, Wendy, Joe, Joshua, and Tim loaded up the adapted van and headed to Colorado. They arrived safely on Saturday evening. After visiting old friends on Sunday, on Monday morning Joe reported to Craig Hospital as a patient in the NRN/OT program sponsored by The Christopher & Dana Reeve Foundation. There are only 4 spots in this program at Craig. Monday and Tuesday were mainly baseline testing - documenting levels of feeling, touch, temperature, lung capacity, biomechanics, etc. Not too exciting but very important. Joe also snuck in a quick weight lifting workout. Wendy and Joe were fortunate to be able to catch up with many old friends as well. Today .... The extremely hard work and exciting things begin. I will post a video shortly showing Joe taking his first assisted steps. This program is revolutionary and effective. Nearly every patient gains some additional function .... and some are able to walk again. Our friend Sherown is an example of the amazing recovery possible. Before starting this program, he was essentially confined to a motorized wheelchair. In September, he completed a 5k! He is an inspiration to us all. Thank you for your support, prayers, and interest in Joe. It means a great deal to him and to all of us. We plan to provide frequent updates. Stay tuned!
