Joel and I had an extended conversation last night about Obamacare - TopicsExpress

Joel and I had an extended conversation last night about Obamacare He feels that it will play out so that coverages will be affordable. I have to respect his opinion, he has done a lot of research. However I did try to get into the marketplace this morning and do some comparing.. unable to access the site. I did manage to get onto the BlueCross/Blue Shield site and look briefly at their coverage premium for my particular situation. $483 a month for minimal coverage..no subsidies because I work for WalMart ..whos plan falls under obamacare guidelines. He seems to feel that the insurance industry will not benefit from this. The thing I feel he doesnt understand is that the insurance industry is a privately owned for profit industry. They are not going to put anything out there if they feel there is no profit in it. And that profit will come from the working poor...and the premiums/deductibles are NOT affordable. It is financially more viable to pay for the office visits and just take the fine for not participating than it is to pay $5 or 6,000 a year with a $7 - 10,000 deductible on top of it. I agree that it will benefit some previously uninsurable people. However, there is going to be a huge number of people, particulary older, single, poor pre medicare elegible people who will not be able to participate without degrading their quality of life substantially. I am going to continue to try to get on the marketplace website and get some specific numbers .. and , WalMarts open enrollment starts this month so I can give you specific numbers from their plan ... more to follow
