File photo MANILA -- Eat Bulaga host Joey de Leon on Wednesday announced that the long-running noontime show will hold a new contest called Thats My Tambay, amid the success of a similarly named talent showcase for lesbians on the rival program Its Showtime. De Leon drew laughs during the live telecast of Eat Bulaga on October 30 as he alluded to Thats My Tomboy in announcing the TAPE programs new segment para sa mga tambay. The announcement was carried by the news website of GMA-7, which airs Eat Bulaga as a blocktimer. The Filipino slang tambay comes from the English phrase stand by. It largely refers to those who are unproductive or are unemployed, as de Leon used the term on Wednesday. Mga kaibigan, may bago tayong contest. In an apparent jab at Thats My Tomboy, the comedian then quipped, Lalaki lang po [ang contestants], lalaki! Kailangan marunong ka kumanta ng Pagdating ng Panahon. Dahil pagdating ng panahon, magkakatrabaho ka, he said, referring to the massive hit of openly lesbian singer Aiza Seguerra. One of the segments on Its Showtime, Thats My Tomboy features lesbians who look masculine. It includes a question-and-answer portion, as well as a talent showcase. Since it debuted early this month on the ABS-CBN program, Thats My Tomboy has consistently figured in the top trending topics on social media platform Twitter. On its first week, the contest topped the list of local and worldwide trends on the micro-blogging site. The title of the contest is a take on the Thats My Boy, a contest for talented boys aged seven and below on Eat Bulaga.
