Joe’s Sunday Sermon (06/30/2013): Good day folks! Welcome to blasphemy central! I keep getting asked (or told) to stop posting my critical comments against religion. I challenge anyone on Facebook to find one single post of mine where I tell someone to stop posting their beliefs. Surprisingly, I then also get accused of trying to push my beliefs upon others. Did I or those like me push to have a phrase installed in our pledge? Did we push to have a slogan placed on our currency? No. My belief is reality, so is that something that should be advocated? Of course it is! You have something against reality? You live in the real world most of the time. You take a break here and there to study and practice your “faith” and to talk to your imaginary friend, but otherwise you live in reality. Once again, I am amazed at the mean and utterly ignorant comments made in response to my advocacy of reality. These so called loving people who claim to believe that they have the creator of the universe on their side cannot make an intelligent argument and many cannot even construct a simple sentence. You would think that if they have this supernatural, all powerful being at their beck and call, that they could use proper grammar and pose an intelligent argument. Nope. What they can do is call names, make threats and delete posts when they demonstrate how foolish they and their supporters can be in response to my comments. Of course one would have to admire the fact that they were at least smart enough to finally recognize how foolish they appear and delete the evidence. I am re-reading ‘god is not GREAT, how religion spoils everything” by the world famous Christopher Hitchens. One point that he made captured my attention and is worth comment here today. When god revealed himself he did so to an ignorant pack of sheppards that were virtually illiterate. Why? Why not to say, to the Chinese? They had a complex language, they could read and write, they practiced advanced mathematics, and had a very well developed society. Why not to the whole world simultaneously? You are all powerful, but you hide in the shadows and reveal yourself only to a group of idiots? This is how you start a religion, you reach out to ignorant and/or desperate people. People that need a crutch. People that do not want to think for themselves or lack the coping skills to thrive in this challenging world. People that are too intellectually challenged or lazy to investigate, learn and grow. It is much easier to explain everything by saying “god did it” rather than to learn the reality of things. Then if someone comes along and challenges your story, you simply kill them OR you employ dishonest tactics that are taught to you by those that wish to keep your mind enslaved. There is no proof god exists. There is plenty of proof that the bible contains hundreds of errors. There is NO evidence of intelligent design. There is literally a mountain of evidence that proves evolution is true. These ARE the facts and they are undisputed by those whose minds are not held hostage by mythology and polluted by dogma. Do good and help others. Not because some magic sky monkey says so, but because it is the right thing to do to make the world a better place. Until next week, I wish you well. Atheist Pastor Joe
