Johannan haastattelu Vaara kirjastojen nettisivuilla: vaarakirjastot.fi/haastatteluarkisto English translation of Johannas interview for the Vaara libraries underneath: 1. Hi Johanna. Its been 10 years since your first recording. From where do you draw the sensitivity and beauty into your music? - For me the beauty of being alive stems from all the contrasts and change in life. Same with music. Were constantly on the move, even though the destination isnt clear. With every album, I feel like Ive paused for a moment to take a picture, to capture the current moment, who I am and the things I see around me, as well as I can, and then move on to something new. It is that sense of being on a journey, and sharing it with others, that keeps me going. Its something I never grow tired of. 2. What is the most impressive location youve thrown a concert in? - Im really grateful for these past years, filled with brilliant shared moments around music. Every live concert is special and one of a kind experience. But, probably, one of the most memorable one was Sotkamon Syke in 2013. Im a huge fan of Battle Beast, and to be able to perform after them on the same stage was surely something Ill never forget! 3. You have been living in the Middle Carelia for some time now. How do you like it? - Ive grown to deeply love Kitee and the people here. I can be quite a hermit at times, but when I need to go out and run some errands, I highly enjoy the warmth and heartfelt atmosphere thats present here. It feels like home. 4. What type of music do you like? - One of my dearest havens, Ive found in this life, has been the harrowingly beautiful and melancholic heavy metal music. The most prised possessions in my CD shelf are, for instance, Katatonias Last fair deal gone down, and Eternal Tears of Sorrows Before the bleeding sun albums. But, all in all, the genre of music doesnt matter, as long as it leaves me with goosebumps! 5. Do you like to read books, and which book did you read last? - I do, but very irregularly. At the moment Im working on Kent Nerburns Neither wolf nor dog 6. Could you recommend a book for the library customers? - Gladly! I know, the world is filled with great books, but for me, one of the dearest fantasyworlds is Patrick Rothfuss The name of the wind and Wise mans fear. Im already eagerly waiting for the third episode! In addition to those, I adore all Tove Janssons Moomin books. I also find the writings of Esko Valtaoja and Richard Dawkins very influential. 7. What else do you do on your free time? - My hobbies are music, horseback riding, oil painting and gardening. I also like games a lot. At the moment my most favorites are Skyrim and Hay Day! 8. You take part in the Live Aid ULS 2017 concert and appear on the song Lohtu, for the childrens hospital. How does it feel to be a part of this project? - For me, this project is something truly special. Here on this Earth, we all breathe the same air. Life in us comes in many sizes, colors and forms. There are a lot of differences and conflicts, but each time we decide to rise above those trivialities, take each other by the hand and join forces, unconditionally, the impossible becomes possible, mountains move and the world changes. Im deeply moved and grateful for being able to witness the whole of Finland joining hands, in this magnitude, in order to do something this beautiful and benevolent together. 9. What greetings would you like to send to the music lovers in the Northern Carelia? - Thank you for this nice chat. I wish for many memorable & privileged moments of existence to you all! Lets continue to adventure & marvel at the flames of this ever so fascinating fire of life, together.
