John 1:35-51 NIV The next day John was there again with two of his disciples. When he saw Jesus passing by, he said, “Look, the Lamb of God!” When the two disciples heard him say this, they followed Jesus. Turning around, Jesus saw them following and asked, “What do you want?” They said, “Rabbi” (which means “Teacher”), “where are you staying?” “Come,” he replied, “and you will see.” So they went and saw where he was staying, and they spent that day with him. It was about four in the afternoon. Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother, was one of the two who heard what John had said and who had followed Jesus. The first thing Andrew did was to find his brother Simon and tell him, “We have found the Messiah” (that is, the Christ). And he brought him to Jesus. Jesus looked at him and said, “You are Simon son of John. You will be called Cephas” (which, when translated, is Peter ). The next day Jesus decided to leave for Galilee. Finding Philip, he said to him, “Follow me.” Philip, like Andrew and Peter, was from the town of Bethsaida. Philip found Nathanael and told him, “We have found the one Moses wrote about in the Law, and about whom the prophets also wrote—Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph.” “Nazareth! Can anything good come from there?” Nathanael asked. “Come and see,” said Philip. When Jesus saw Nathanael approaching, he said of him, “Here truly is an Israelite in whom there is no deceit.” “How do you know me?” Nathanael asked. Jesus answered “I saw you while you were still under the fig tree before Philip called you.” Then Nathanael declared, “Rabbi, you are the Son of God; you are the king of Israel.” Jesus said, “You believe because I told you I saw you under the fig tree. You will see greater things than that.” He then added, “Very truly I tell you, you will see ‘heaven open, and the angels of God ascending and descending on’ the Son of Man.” Once again we see John declaring that Jesus is the Lamb of God! He said Look the Lamb of God He wanted to get his disciples attention, He wanted them to know who Christ was. Are you willing, eager to point people to Christ even if it means them leaving you? When the disciples heard who Jesus was they followed him. When Jesus saw them He asked What do you want? Following Jesus is not enough, Why are you following him? You must follow Jesus for the right reasons. If you are following Christ for your cause and not His. Youre in essence asking him to follow you to align himself with your will. When you follow Christ You must submit to His Lordship! Examine yourselves to see if youre seeking His glory or yours. I once read a statement who is greater Billy Graham or the man who lead Billy Graham to the Lord? Billy Graham is probably the greatest modern day evangelist he has led hundreds of thousands to the Lord. He has spoke to world leaders and spiritual leaders for decades. But the man who lead Billy Graham to Christ was Mordecai Ham. You probably dont know much about him or if you ever heard of him. But that doesnt make him any less great. He is active obedience resulted in a great harvest of fruit. Through his obedience Gods kingdom grew. Christ tells us if we want to be great we need to be a servant to all. Andrew would become one of the 12 disciples, he would even be martyred for his faith. Besides that we know little about him. But we know a lot about Peter. Does that make Andrew any less great? No! When Andrew belived who Christ was he went and told his brother. Who have you told about Christ? You will never know the fruit it can produce this side of heaven. If you want to be great in heaven dont seek mans approval. dont have fear beware of pride. Because youre single act of obedience could have an amazing impact if you just obey. Only God knows the next person you witnessed to could be the next Billy Graham Peter did not become a rock overnight. but Christ saw who Peter would become. Much like Christ looks at who we will become. With Peter as it is with us we have highs and lows at times he thought he was useless to God. And Im willing to say you have felt the same way too. But through Christs grace mercy and love Peter would become one of the fonders a pillar and the church. Remember your mistakes dont define who you are, Christ who lives in you defies who you are. Christ knew Nathan before they ever met, Likewise Christ knew you before you ever chose to follow him. Nathan was an honest man he felt comfortable that Christ knew who he was. If youre dishonest you feel uncomfortable knowing that Christ knows you You try to hide who you are. Is there anything youre holding back from Christ? Is there anything youre ashamed of You havent let go of? Once you come to Christ and ask him to be your Lord and Savior He doesnt look at everything you ever did. He has forgotten them. The Bible says they are cast as far as the east is from the west. It tells us they are thrown into the depths of the sea. The handwriting against us has been wiped clean. It has been removed! Christ knows what you will become allow Him to shape and mold you submit to His will and not yours. Jesus was referring to the ladder in Jacobs dream back in Genesis 28:12. Jesus would become that ladder he was not saying that his disciples would see a little ladder but that they would see Him as that ladder. He is the way to heaven! The Bible tells us that Christ is the way the truth and the light no one comes to the Father except through him. I have covered a lot today mainly about how we dont look at what we were but we will be come in Christ. Take a moment in prayer Let go of the things youve not let go of. Ask God to search out your heart to reviel to you the things that are hindering you from serving him 100 percent. And praise him that your past dont defy you.
