John 13:3-4 New King James Version (NKJV) 3 Jesus, knowing that the Father had given all things into His hands, and that He had come from God and was going to God, 4 rose from supper and laid aside His garments, took a towel and girded Himself. The power of the universe is vested in Jesus. He said in Matt. 28:18, All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. Here verse 3 says that Jesus knew that the Father had given all things into His hands., What do you do with that kind of power? How do you use all that authority? Jesus, on the basis of that power, girded Himself, took a towel, and washed the feet of His disciples. He used His power to serve. It has been said that power tends to corrupt, and absolute power corrupts absolutely. It may be true for most people, but not for the One who truly had absolute power. - Pastor Chuck Smith.
