John 14:1-6 THE WAY, THE TRUTH, AND THE LIFE Jesus, 14 Let not your heart be troubled; you believe in God, believe also in Me. 2In My Fathers house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. 3And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also. 4And where I go you know, and the way you know. 5Thomas said to Him, Lord, we do not know where You are going, and how can we know the way? 6Jesus said to him, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me. Chuck Smith, 14:2 The mansion could be that glorious new body that He has gone to prepare for you, a building of God, not made with hands, eternal in the heavens (see 2 Corinthians 5:1). 2 Corinthians 5:1-8 ASSURANCE OF THE RESURRECTION Paul the apostle, 5 For we know that if our earthly house, this tent, is destroyed, we have a building from God, a house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens. 2For in this we groan, earnestly desiring to be clothed with our habitation which is from heaven, 3if indeed, having been clothed, we shall not be found naked. 4For we who are in this tent groan, being burdened, not because we want to be unclothed, but further clothed, that mortality may be swallowed up by life. 5Now He who has prepared us for this very thing is God, who also has given us the Spirit as a guarantee. 6So we are always confident, knowing that while we are at home in the body we are absent from the Lord. 7For we walk by faith, not by sight. 8We are confident, yes, well pleased rather to be absent from the body and to be present with the Lord. 5:1-4 Paul described our physical bodies as temporary dwelling places, tents that will one day be discarded. But God is preparing new bodies for us, a house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens. The real me isnt my body, it is my spirit. And when this body wears out, I will move into a new body that He has prepared for me, designed for heaven and eternity. Someday you may read in the newspaper that Chuck Smith died. Dont believe it! Accurate reporting would say, Chuck Smith moved! I will have moved out of an old, worn-out tent, into a glorious new body like Jesus has. There will be no more groaning, no more pain, no more suffering: just perfect fellowship with the Lord forever! 5:6-8 Paul wasnt afraid to die. In fact, he looked forward to it because he realized that as long as he was here on earth, he would be absent from the Lord. For the Christian, death means that our spirit moves from our body into the presence of the Lord. I agree with Paul. I can hardly wait for that! Back to John 14:6 This is another one of those radical statements of Jesus. One that has caused the world to hate Christians, saying were too narrow and bigoted. The world would like to think that all roads lead to God. Jesus said that no one can come to the Father except through Him.
