John 14:19,20—“Before long, the world will not see me anymore, but you will see me. Because I live, you also will live. On that day you will realize that I am in my Father, and you are in me, and I am in you.” Read todays devotion, Where There is Christ’s Love There is Faith in His Word, from Meditations Daily Devotional. Believing is seeing. We walk by faith. The unbelieving world is still groping in the darkness. The world presumes our Lord Jesus is still in a tomb somewhere outside Jerusalem. We have the testimony of witnesses who saw the risen Christ, touched him, and ate with him over those 40 days after his resurrection. They shared the good news of his resurrection and his ascension into heaven. Our faith rests in the Word of God from “in the beginning” to the final “Amen.” Christ’s love, revealed in the Word of God, has, by the power of the Holy Spirit, opened our blind eyes to see. And what do we see in our risen Lord Jesus? We see the certainty of living forever. “Because I love, you also will live.” That promise of Jesus enables the Christian mourner to grieve, but we grieve unlike the rest of the world. We have and confess our faith in the resurrection because we know the One who ascended to the right hand of the Father. We know that he continues to serve us as our Prophet through the spoken Word, as our Priest through his continuing intercession for those he redeemed, and as our King who rules over everything in heaven and on earth for he benefit of God’s children. That’s what we are in him who loves us. There was a time when a man’s word and a handshake were all that was needed to seal a promise. That has long since changed in earthly transactions. Not for us when it comes to our Lord’s sweet promises. We take his word. Faith sees in his Word the unfailing truth of our Savior, our Brother, our Redeemer, and our Friend. He will come again. This we believe by faith that is strengthened through his Word and his holy Sacraments. We can still sing, “Jesus loves me, this I know, for the Bible tells me so.” The kingdom of heaven belongs to such as those who sing these words and by faith believe. Prayer: Risen and ascended Lord Jesus, keep me until that day when you will take me home to be with you forever. Amen. From Meditations: Vol. 57, No. 2, Edited by Curtis A.
