John 3 *do you have eyes to see & ears to hear? * John 3:1 There was a man of the Pharisees, named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews: The Pharisees were a group that believed in life after death. Nicodemus means “conqueror of the people.” He was high up in the Sanhedrin. John 3:2 The same came to Jesus by night, and said unto him, Rabbi,we know that thou art a teacher come from God: for no man can do these miracles that thou doest, except God be with him. He was intelligent enough to know that those miracles that Christ had performed had to be from God. He was also a member of the Sanhedrin and a friend of Joseph of Arimathea who was related to Christ through His mother Mary. He would come at night because it was not acceptable for someone that was that high in the Sanhedrin to come and openly study with Jesus. John 3:3 Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God. In the phrase “born again” the word “again” means “above.” Strong’s Concordance, Greek, again: 509. anothen an-o-then from 507; from above; by analogy, from the first; by implication, anew:--from above, again, from the beginning (very first), the top. This means that a man cannot be saved unless he is born from above. Verily means amen, truth or so be it. These words are interchangeable. To say verily is to say, amen or to say, so be it is to say, amen. John 3:4 Nicodemus saith unto him, How can a man be born when he is old? can he enter the second time into his mother’s womb, and be born? Nicodemus is thinking in earthly terms. John 3:5 Jesus answered, Verily, verily I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. We must be born from our earthly mother’s womb, which is a water sac and also of the Spirit. We must make our minds up whether to follow Jesus or satan. John 3:6 That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. In other words, when God created man from dirt, He breathed the spirit into man and he became a living soul. Spirit is ruwach in Hebrew. Strongs Concordance, Hebrew, wind: 7306 ruwach roo-akh a primitive root; properly, to blow, i.e. breathe; only (literally) to smell or (by implication, perceive (figuratively, to anticipate, enjoy):--accept, smell, X touch, make of quick understanding. Strongs Concordance, Hebrew, wind: 7307 ruwach roo-akh from 7306; wind; by resemblance breath, i.e. a sensible (or even violent) exhalation; figuratively, life, anger, unsubstantiality; by extension, a region of the sky; by resemblance spirit, but only of a rational being (including its expression and functions):--air, anger, blast, breath, X cool, courage, mind, X quarter, X side, spirit((-ual)), tempest, X vain, ((whirl-))wind(-y). Strongs Concordance, Hebrew, wind: 7308 ruwach roo-akh (Aramaic) corresponding to 7307:--mind, spirit, wind. A man has both a flesh body and a spirit body. See Appendix 9, Companion Bible for more information. John 3:7 Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again. Again” is 509 Greek in the Strong’s Exhaustive Concordance, “from above.” John 3:8 The wind bloweth where it listeth, and thou hearest the sound thereof, but canst not tell whence it cometh, and whither it goeth: so is every one that is born of the Spirit. We can hear the wind but we cannot see the wind or the spirit. We can see what the wind does sometimes. John 3:9 Nicodemus answered and said unto him, How can these things be? John 3:10 Jesus answered and said unto him, Art thou a master of Israel, and knowest not these things? Jesus is asking “You’re a teacher and you don’t know these things?” Jesus is not criticizing Nicodemus but when a teacher does not understand the difference between the flesh body and the spirit body, it is pitiful. John 3:11 Verily, verily, I say unto thee, We speak that we do know, and testify that we have seen; and ye receive not our witness. Jesus is saying that Nicodemus will not open his mind to allow Christ’s teaching to enter. He is going to switch into a lower gear to try to clarify for Nicodemus. John 3:12 If I have told you earthly things, and ye believe not, how shall ye believe, if I tell you of heavenly things? Jesus is saying that Nicodemus will not understand if he cannot understand the earthly things, how will he ever understand the heavenly things that Jesus could teach. All children come from God, entered the mother’s womb and live(d) a flesh life. John 3:13 And no man hath ascended up to heaven, but he that came down from heaven, even the Son of man which is in heaven. No one goes back to heaven unless he came from heaven in the first place to be born on earth from above. All are born from above. No man is going to go to heaven that didnt come from there in the first place. 2nd Corinthians 5:7 (For we walk by faith, not by sight:) 2nd Corinthians 5:8 We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord. The spiritual body is your eternal body which is the same old you. Every living being is born from above and must be born from above. There will be no more fallen angels mating with earthly women to produce souls. John 3:14 And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up: What is He talking about here? Numbers 21:7 Therefore the people came to Moses, and said, We have sinned, for we have spoken against the LORD, and against thee; pray unto the LORD, that he take away the serpents from us. And Moses prayed for the people. Numbers 21:8 And the LORD said unto Moses, Make thee a fiery serpent, and set it upon a pole: and it shall come to pass, that every one that is bitten, when he looketh upon it, shall live. Numbers 21:9 And Moses made a serpent of brass, and put it upon a pole, and it came to pass, that if a serpent had bitten any man, when he beheld the serpent of brass, he lived. God can save however He chooses. His method of teaching is very elegant. The serpent was a teaching aid to give us a type or example of Christ. Christ was crucified for a purpose. Hebrews 2:14 Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, he also himself likewise took part of the same; that through death he might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil; Christ came to earth in the flesh to die on the cross to destroy death, which is to say satan, which is to say the serpent. It is your choice which would you believe, the serpent on the pole or the savior who died for you to have eternal life. Our Father made sure to have that available to you.
