John 8:58 (JW.ORG) is spot on! Jesus said to them: “Most truly I say to you, before Abraham came into existence, I have been.” Jesus when He uttered that verse, (I have been could very well be I AM) HAD BEEN part of the Father as His ARM (Isa53:1). He was not yet severed from the Father until He was nailed on the cross, having taken on Himself our sins (He became sin on our behalf - 2Cor5:21). Then, in keeping with the Law of Christ (If your right hand is sinning, cut it off -- Sermon on the Mount), the Father SEVERED the Son/ARM from Himself when all sin was finally heaped on Him/Jesus/ARM. Therefore we see the Son crying out on the cross, Father, why hast thou forsaken me. But like the severed rose branch, the Son HAD LIFE IN HIMSELF (Jn5:26), who went into hell fought with Satan and having paid the penalty for the sins, procured the keys of life and death. He then emerged on earth, resurrected, after three days and finding Mary Magdalen, said, Stop clinging to Me (because you will be making me sin again), for I have not yet ascended to the Father; but go to My brethren and say to them, `I ascend to My Father and your Father, and My God and your God. (Jn20:17). Today, Jesus, having ascended to the Father, is seated at the right hand of the Father, interceding for us. Today, He may very well say, I WAS. When the remnant, together with all those who have gone ahead of us (Heb11:39-40), are perfected by the Holy Spirit, Jesus will then hand us over to the Father (1Cor15:24ff), and we, together with the Lord Jesus Christ, will once again be married/grafted to the Father.
