John 9:13-16a (NIV) - They brought to the Pharisees the man who had been blind. Now the day on which Jesus had made the mud and opened the man’s eyes was a Sabbath. Therefore the Pharisees also asked him how he had received his sight. “He put mud on my eyes,” the man replied, “and I washed, and now I see.” Some of the Pharisees said, “This man is not from God, for he does not keep the Sabbath.” Today’s commentary by Dave Whitehead, Senior Pastor, GraceNYC.org It seems that even if a miracle is in front of their eyes, the religious leaders of Jesus day could not bring themselves to acknowledge that God was doing unique things. Unfortunately, times have not changed that much. Men become enamored with power, and when the living God begins to challenge their systems, they will do anything they can to protect the status quo. We would do well to learn from the Pharisees, for that same seed is in us. We can be more in touch with what is comfortable instead of embracing what God is doing in our generation.
