John Burke: It is with great sadness that I note the passing of a friend, a colleague and a mentor, Woodbury Town Supervisor John Burke, who died Tuesday, July 29. It was my good fortune as mayor of Cornwall-on-Hudson to get to know John. Whenever I went to an Association of Towns, Villages and Cities meeting, I made a point of sitting with John, who was always good for a bit of wisdom and wit. He was an old-fashioned Irish politician, who cared deeply and worked hard for Woodbury. Affable, yes. Determined, oh yes. He stood up to Kiryas Joel again and again as KJs leaders tried to govern by their own rules. John Burke was a public servant who gave politicians a good name. I miss you John.
