John Cleese with an interesting point I have pondered over the years. It applies to a lot of things. What if you have absolutely no insight? Can you ever really realize that you cannot assess reality? The problem is one persons stupid is not really stupid..it is just contrary to what someone else believes. In the case of Fox news people...are they really stupid or are they inflexible ,right wing in their thinking to the point that their judgement is entirely clogged by denial of facts. What if you are paid handsomely to promulgate a particular perspective. What if additionally you have less ethics and more wish to just be seen and prevail. Is this really stupid? Perhaps its more like a convenient selling out to a set of values that you have not questioned or do not wish to question because you get a big payout for not checking it out. some of the people at Fox news act stupid and say ridiculous things which are clearly not based in fact. But what if you are so puffed up and narcissistic that you believe your opinions are so solid that you can delude yourself into thinking they are facts. Is that really stupidity? Or is that a kind of corruption of values that is convenient and you are convinced what you are saying is sane and popular thought ..therefore must be true. No I dont think people at Fox are stupid in general (some may act stupid). My best guess is they are far from stupid. They are corrupted and have a set of values that allows them to think that just because they say something..some crazy opinion that it must be true. That is a form of narcissism. Yes it often comes out sounding wrong headed, crazy ,insane and yes stupid as it has no concordance with facts...but is it really stupid. We can laugh at stupid and we can dismiss stupid as being actual limitations of brain power. Maybe we should reexamine what stupid is and realize that it is really often a corrupt value system that allows one to not value facts and reality in favour of believing opinions that are self serving and venal. If we stop calling opinionated people with a lot of hatred and anger and selfishness in their thinking stupid and perhaps just label them as bright people with distorted values who overvalue their opinions more than they value than the analysis of facts...maybe we can really understand what is going on with Fox news or with a Rush Limbaugh. I doubt they are stupid. I think they are just corrupt and overvalue their opinions and undervalue facts.
