John Emison Copper Johns obituary in the Canadian Record November 21, 1918 DEATH CALL IS FREQUENT COPPER John Copper, aged 37 years, a victim of influenza-pneumonia, died at his home in Canadian at 9 oclock last Sunday after an illness of something like a couple of weeks. For several years the deceased has been a resident of Canadian and just prior to his demise had operated the shoe shop on Main Street. There remains of his family, four children and the wife, all of whom are afflicted at this time with influenza, and who, on account of the epidemic, were unable to attend the burial ceremonies. Short services were held in the yard adjacent to the family residence, conducted by Rev. E.D. Morgan, Pastor of the local Baptist Church. Interment in the city cemetery. Spouse: Mattie Arena Chandler Drake (1889 - 1958) Children: Amber Oleta Copper Hulen (1907 - 1941) J. D. Copper (1910 - 1983) Clifton Archie Copper (1911 - 1926) Lottie Mae Copper Godsey (1914 - 1990) Leo Franklin Copper (1916 - 1917) Note: Per Mary Milledge, who performed the cemetery inventory in 2006, there were so many dying from the flu pandemic at this time that they had some mass burials.
