Former USSR member Georgia, former USSR member Crimea, Chechnya two wars since FSU breakup, one for independence and second to retake the republic into the Russian Federation. 3 to 22; guess who is in denial. Jim Pivonka -And that counting presumes Chechnya a country. It was, and is, not a country. It was, and remains, a part of the Russian Federation. The invasion of Georgia was precipitated by a Cheney directed move on Ossetia that was preliminary to a planned move on Abkhazia, from and by Georgia; Russia left Georgia once the independence of Ossetia and Abkhazia from Georgian subversion was guaranteed. Crimea was a part of Russia for hundreds of years, until Kruschev unilaterally and by international standards (consent of its people was not considered) transferred it to Ukraine in 1954; the people of Crimea never accepted the transfer and now they have asserted their Russian preference.
