John Kurtze Review of “Beyond Limits” by Laura Griffin Pages 400 Publisher: Pocket Books, Inc When you put Navy Seals, FBI agents, other government agencies with three letters, and a terrorist cell you have all the ingredients of an action packed Laura Griffin new Tracers novel. She immediately introduces key characters and their back stories. “Beyond Limits,” story line illustrates complications of the FBI working with or even recognizing the efforts of the Navy Seal team. The pace of the action in the beginning of story never slows and continues to increase as readers can feel the buildup of momentum in the story. Griffin continues the development of the support characters providing additional back story information as needed. She introduces the two key protagonists, Navy Seal Derek Vaughn and FBI agent Elisabeth LeBlanc. Each character has a history with each other and Griffin does a great job of keeping the reader guessing what is going on between them. The antagonists are unknown but as a group they always seem to be one step ahead of LeBlanc and Vaughn as they team up to pursue leads that LeBlanc’s boss doesn’t seem to have an interest. “Beyond Limits” is well researched and readers learn the ins and outs of an FBI investigation of a terrorist cell. As the story progresses readers are brought into the investigation through the eyes of LeBlanc. LeBlanc pursues an interview with Haley Gardner, the hostage Vaughn rescued, and readers participate in the interview as if they are sitting on LeBlanc and Vaughn’s shoulders. The pace of the story never slows down and is always changing as LeBlanc and Vaughn follow leads in the investigation. The terrorists are ruthless, have no conscience and try and take out LeBlanc and Vaughn as they strengthen their commitment to stop the plot. Of course the main frustration as the FBI hasn’t found out what the terrorist group is targeting. Griffin keeps her readers’ interest in romance as she builds a fire under both LeBlanc and Vaughn. LeBlanc a career in law enforcement and Vaughn a career Navy Seal always going somewhere on a mission knowing he might not come back. They both are sure neither a relationship is possible, since they are from two different worlds As usual all of the books in the Griffin’s Tracer series our protagonists use the Delphi Center’s state of the art technology to find some answers that point Vaughn and Leblanc towards answers that bring them closer to discovering the target. Using modern technology to help find answers the Delphi Center and Dr. Voss shed new light on their case . This is a gripping story of intrigue and suspense delivering a thrill a minute and readers will find themselves holding their breath more than once. Readers will find themselves going down one road thinking they knew what was going to happen next and they find themselves wondering what they missed. This suspense thriller is a heart stopper both in the intense action and the intense connection in the world of romance. This is great read and has my recommendation. I give the story 5 stars without reservation. amazon/Beyond-Limits-Tracers-Book-8-ebook/dp/B00LD1S12O/ref=la_B001JS1EFM_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1418925992&sr=1-1
