John Lennon ribs the royals Posted Nov 04, 2013 The Beatles were just into their 20s when they were invited to sing before Queen Elizabeth and other dignitaries for the Royal Command Performance on this day in 1963. The lads were a bit nervous (see the performance here [beatlesbible/1963/11/04/live-royal-command-performance/]). John Lennon had joked about dropping the F-bomb, but apparently thought better of it. Instead, before the fourth and final song, “Twist and Shout,” he managed this: “Would the people in the cheaper seats clap your hands? And the rest of you, if you’ll rattle your jewelry.” Years later, he explained the Fab Four’s jitters at the stuffy show before the queen, Princess Margaret and their mum. “I was fantastically nervous, but I wanted to say something to rebel a bit,” Lennon said, “and that was the best i could do.” – Lisa Legge photos.twincities/2013/11/04/famous-birthdays-nov-4-and-john-lennon-ribs-the-royals/ youtube/watch?v=Tzb5QABCmak
