John Maxwell: The 17 Indisputable Laws of Team Work Module 2: Chapter 3: Week 2 - The Law of The Niche (All Players Have a Place Where They Add the Most Value) Start by finding the right place for you: How do I find my niche? Follow these guidelines: Be secure—if you let your insecurities to get the better of you, you’ll be inflexible and reluctant to change, and to grow—you must be willing to change. Get to know yourself—you won’t be able to find your niche if you don’t know your strengths and weaknesses. Trust your leader—a good leader will help you start moving in the right direction. See the big picture—your place on the team makes sense only in the context of the big picture. Rely on your experience—when it come down to it—what seems right and learn from your failures and successes. You are most valuable where you add the most value You can become a better team member— Think of 5280 Karate Academy like this, There’s no place like this place anywhere near this place, so this must be the place? If so, stay the course, and keep growing and learning in your area of expertise---if not, get on the right track. If you know your niche, but aren’t working on it, start planning a transition plan and timetable for completing it. Once you have the courage, take the first step. If you have no idea what you should be doing you need to do some research. Talk to your close friends about your strengths and weaknesses. Ask for your leader’s assessment. Take personality or temperament tests. Look for recurring themes in your life. Try to articulate your life purpose. Do whatever it takes to find clues concerning where you should get. Then try new things related to your discoveries. The only way to find your niche is to gain experience. A sign of a great team leader is the proper placement of people—know your team the situation, and the players—stretch them out of their comfort zones, but never out of their gift zone, this leads to frustration, but motivating people out of their comfort zones leads to fulfillment.
