John Moolenaar’s Tax of the Day Tax #7 - HB 5192, Tax Hike on Health Care Providers On December 10, 2008, Sen. John Moolenaar voted to impose a tax on medical services provided by some managed care organizations. The tax rate on this bill was effectively changed from a 5.5% use tax to a 6% use tax on specific medical services. This increased state revenue in 2008/09 by $14.5 million. “Year after year, Senator Moolenaar kept voting to raise taxes on Michigan families in some of their most trying times,” said Paul Mitchell for Congress campaign manager, Jeff Timmer. “By voting over 160 times to raise taxes and fees, he’s betrayed our conservative values. Our nation can’t afford another big spending career politician in Congress.” Moolenaar has a track record of raising Michigan’s tax burden during his long political career.
