John Peel. The effect he had on my musical tastes simply cannot be measured. Although mostly known for his alternative rock stuff such as The Fall, Nirvana, The Undertones, PJ Harvey etc, lets not forget all the countless genres he championed way ahead of the game like hip hop, techno and drum n bass. Also all the amazing Peel Sessions he frequently offered to bands who hadnt even recorded yet or were at the very beginning of their journeys. This weekend marks 10 years since his death and Id like to pay him some respect in the form of my favorite Captain Beefheart track, a band whos first single he rescued from the reject bin.
