John Philoponus (Late 6th Century CE) Philoponus was an early Alexandrian Christian who was interested in both Christian theology and physics. He was the first to combine scientific theories with monotheism and creation. He argued heatedly against the Aristotelian views prevalent in his day. Philoponus proposed that the universe was not eternal, that heavenly bodies have the same physical properties as earth and that stars are not divine. He also theorized that a starss color was due to its composition and how quickly it was burning. His views altered the future of science and are believed to have also influenced Islamic scholars (His works were obtained when the Arabs sacked Alexandria).
