John Pinette, dead at 50, was a comedian everyone adored, the kindest, funniest, most generous comic ever. He performed on one of my Bway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS benefits with no star attitude, he just showed up, decimated the room, and left. That particular audience had never heard of him. By the end of his hysterical set, they never forgot him. That night he was preparing for his Hairspray audition and he did a Harvey Fierstein impression that had me on the floor. I wont forget how we spent several evenings laughing together. When I worked with him I wondered how I dared to even try to be a comic. The guy just had the ability to make an audience scream with helpless laughter, and I was in awe every time I watched him. The first time I met him he treated me like a long lost pal and continued to do so. Life is not fair because John is gone and (insert name here) still walks the planet unscathed. John was one of a kind, a great comic and a great man, and I am sad today, but he made a lot of people happy. He made the world better. RIP xoxoxox I love you.
