John Polidori ( 1795 - 1821 ) Friend of Lord Byron and Percy - TopicsExpress

John Polidori ( 1795 - 1821 ) Friend of Lord Byron and Percy Shelly. Polidori, Byron, Shelly, and Shellys wife Mary, during a storm at a villa they were sharing on Lake geneva, decided to hold a contest to see who could come up with the scariest tale. Mary Shellys tale became the classic known the world over, Frankenstein. But Polidori wrote a short story based on the tale he told that night as well, one whose impact is felt even stronger today than ever before. Called, simply, The Vampyre , this was the first vampire novel ever printed. Though almost completely unknown today, without this tale, we would not have Dracula, Barnabas, LeStat, or any of the Twilight series ( hmmmm...maybe Polidori SHOULDNT have written the tale. I mean, TWILIGHT?????? ) The vampire of the title was named Varnae. Here, you see the Mayberry Arts Councils lead actor in the title role of their dramatization of Polidoris tale: Barney the Vampyre...
