John and I have had the privilege of attending the annual SBU Christmas and service award banquet for 35 years. We have witnessed the Life Beautiful honor conferred upon many worthy and distinguished colleagues. Thus, it took me several days to accept the fact that this honor had been given to me. It is truly humbling, knowing that so many of my current colleagues are very deserving of this award. During my first semester of teaching in the fall of 1986, I read this passage and in it found the basis for what the Lord wanted me to do with this new career: The goal of our instruction is love from a pure heart and a good conscience and a sincere faith.
