John is staying fairly stable. His temperature was rising a little high throughout the day and doctors feel a new antibiotic is going to take care of it, while dealing with the ARDS. Medicine really is a balancing act of ruling out one thing and treating the next. The more they lower his sedation meds to keep him alert, the more frustrated he becomes with the ventilator tube. A lot of gagging and trying to cough is happening. The plan is to extubate him in the next day or so. His breathing stats need to improve for this to happen or they will have to perform the tracheostomy so he can still have breathing assistance but lower the risk of infection. He is so much more aware of things around him; opening his eyes and following people. I am so very proud of John and his strength! Please pray that he is not afraid and the meds are keeping him out of pain.
