John, these are the UKs two carriers in dry dock side by side. When you said that Britains carrier was only a third the size of the USs you were partially right. You were referring to their older carrier fleet, not the new. You can see that the new is, in fact, quite larger than the one she is replacing. One of the reasons that the British carrier is somewhat smaller then her American counterparts, like the Nimitz and the new Ford class, is because she does not have nuclear reactors. That lessons her weight, and also the size needed to accommodate those types of power plants. And operational terms she was designed to fit in side-by-side with our carrier strike forces, thereby lessening some of the freedom of seas commitment that we have. That is why this is a big deal for us here in the US. It was no coincidence in that the ship was commissioned on July 4.
