Johnny 3 Legs has been a mainstay in the Washington,3 DC (DMV) - TopicsExpress

Johnny 3 Legs has been a mainstay in the Washington,3 DC (DMV) area music scene for the last decade, and is poised to make noise in 2014. From his early days as front man for the rap metal band Spine, Johnny has used his 69 300 lb frame to exude stage presence and wipe the floor with numetal goons like Powerman5000-Kerrrang magazine. Featured nationally on Jimmy Iovines Farmclub television show, Johnny held his own with perennial platinum selling artists Kid Rock, Disturbed, and Queens of the Stone Age. After touring extensively nationally as the MC of the rock outfit, he quit Spine to join forces with Dave Grohls former guitarist R. Lee (Harley) Davidson of the legendary harDCore band Scream. I was never a huge fan of metal, Johnny told Matt Davis of 98 Rock Baltimore, Im a hip hop kid who digs punk rock. Its just more esoteric and comes naturally to me. No stranger to the alternative and college (CMJ) charts, Harley and Johnnys creation, God is Dead, began a torrid 2 year stretch that included recording 2 albums, Disgraceland and the self titled God Is Dead, along with a grueling tour schedule. Quickly becoming a regional favorite, and a thorn in the side of various religious factions who took issue with the band name, God is Dead stayed firmly planted in the underground scene till they disbanded in 2004. Johnny entered the next phase of his career going back to his roots as a ferocious MC. Quickly snatched up by New Jersey independent label, Gig Records, he honed his craft by participating in, and winning, numerous freestyle battles in New Orleans, Philadelphia, Baltimore, and Washington DC. Finding himself without a band for the first time, Johnny added the moniker Mastadon to his stage name and showcased his extensive musical talent by manually playing the guitar, keyboards, saxophone, percussion, and bass. Even banjo, mandolin, and accordion, his music took on a new guise, one reflecting his childhood. Almost everyone in my family plays multiple instruments and sings harmony, Im probably the least talented one! he told XL 102 - Richmond VA, Thats a lot of pressure for a kid, especially when I was so into hip hop. No one under stood it. Johnny 3 Legs released his first solo effort, MastaDon Son, in early 2007 and received nods from indie hip hop legends POS of Doom Tree and Rhymesayers, Killa Priest of Wu Tang Clan and original Weatherman, CopyWrite. The album sold out after every run and is still having a hard time staying stocked. Signing with upstart Legal Sound in 2008, his second solo album, The Wreckoning, produced underground hits Babygirl and Feed That Thing, while further cementing his reputation as one of the DMVs most accomplished MCs. In 2009 Johnny formed the Franchise Players with musicians from his hometown of Sumerduck, VA and changed his style to a decidedly more positive vibe. Ive been rocking dreds for the last ten years, I guess the natural thing to do was play Reggae The Franchise Players became local favorites and recorded Destiny and I Not with Marco Del Mar of capitol records fame before disbanding. Currently, Johnny 3 Legs and his newest outfit, The Barstool Profits, are gearing up to record his next album, working with Livid City Records. You dont have to keep and eye on Johnny, youll definitely hear him coming... https://soundcloud/johnny3legs myspace/johnny3legs
