Johnson credits touring with groups like Iron and Wine, Death Cab for Cutie, and Dr. Dog for inspiring The Head and the Heart’s expansion into new sonic spaces. Though, what the band didnt take into account is that they are NOT these bands. They fell victim to the same fate that Iron & Wine did: expanding their sound just for the sake of expanding it, without any real inspiration or direction behind that notion. Which, in turn, creates the muddled, uninspired, dumbed-down crap that is this new album. Sometimes certain musicians need to understand where their skills and talents lie and recognize that they are not jack-of-all-trades. You wont catch me calling my plumber to redecorate my living room. Now, excuse me while I cry myself to sleep listening to Rivers and Roads and Winter Song. :(
