Join me and the Geneva Presbyterian Church family this morning at either 8, 9:30, or 11:00 am, as we consider Gods radical in-breaking into human experience and the change Jesus birth made forever. Our focus will be on the Messianic promise in Isaiah 61. The people of God were cowering in fear under the shadow of death. Their religion was in shambles. The meaning of their traditions was lost. The people of God were captive to their misguided ways. Nothing was working and the stench of death was in the air. Isaiah had his mandate, motivation, message, and market clearly delineated. God’s directive was clear. Isaiah was to love and serve a lost and disoriented community of God followers. Advent is a curious time for followers of Jesus. It is a time of waiting and preparing for God to transform the world through Jesus Christ…past, present, and future. The promise of Advent is not an empty hope but a sure promise. Yet we are often preoccupied with consumerism, materialism, and holiday parties. Faith in God and banking ones hope on God’s promises are both critical for followers of Jesus. We have great expectations of the Messiah. The mission of Advent brings peace into our chaos…our suffering…and the chaos and suffering of others. Balancing belief and disbelief leads to a transforming, salvific experience of faith and hope. Prepare the way of the Lord. Gods mission is good news for captives in that it brings about the liberation of release. ---Pastor Steve
