Join our local effort to fund 8,000 Duval County School students for as little as $5.75 per child. Across our nation, Black leaders and organizations are supporting this growing Movement. Inspired by the initial effort, we have created a more comprehensive initiative for our community: • Students will be provided dedicated transportation to and from the screening • Content specific curriculum developed to engage students through Socratic Circles to connect the history of the film and its relevance to current day issues • Video with students reflections before and after the screening, and after they have had an opportunity to engage in critical thought/discussion to be used as we continue to foster better race relations and develop a more engaged and informed citizenry • Essay contest that will provide awards and recognition for the top three essay winners at future school board meeting • Partnership with the Florida Times-Union to publish student essays Donate NOW: bit.ly/15irreF corporate sponsorship bit.ly/1E89bnv individual sponsorship It all started at a dinner party on New Year’s Eve, when a group of prominent African American executives were discussing the historical significance of “Selma,” and how important it is for young people to see the story come alive on screen. Soon dinner table chatter became a movement and within a week, 27 business executives created a fund to allow some 27,000 middle school and high school freshman students in New York City to see the film for free at participating theaters starting January 8. By Sunday Jan 18, the Selma For Students efforts had raised $2.1 million and distributed at least 285,000 free tickets in 24 cities-- from Nashville to San Francisco.
