Join the Honorable Carlos J. Martinez, Miami-Dade Public Defender, as the Walking One Stop travels to Little Haiti on Monday, August 25th. The Walking One Stop is the most dynamic coordinated community response to violence, which will be mobilized to a neighborhood that has experienced a recent and severe incident of gun violence. You are invited to join elected officials, faith leaders, social and economic service providers along with criminal justice personnel and concerned community activists as we bring social and economic service referrals door-to-door to a neighborhood that has experienced recent and severe violence – putting you face to face with residents who are traumatized. In addition to door-to-door service delivery, the CareerSource South Florida Mobile Workforce Assistance Center will be onsite to assist citizens in finding employment, creating and updating résumés, enhancing interviewing skills and providing access to a range of testing and assessment services needed to become job-ready. Additionally, the Florida Department of Health in Miami-Dade County’s Test Miami Mobile Unit will also be onsite providing free HIV testing and STD screenings. The Public Defender’s Office will be on hand to provide information on sealing and expungement and criminal court issues. On Monday, August 25th at 9:30 a.m., we will gather for a short briefing at the City of Miami Police Department Model City Police Substation located at 1000 NW 62nd Street, Miami, then, from 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 noon, the Walking One Stop will be dispatched to a nearby location to be announced. Please RSVP by Friday, August 22nd to wayne@waynerawlins and include your name, affiliation, and contact information.
