Join us Saturday night for the first ever Nuit Blanche Saskatoon, featuring artists, authors and musicians, and an exhibit of imagery, animation, and sound projections from the CLS. Nuit Blanche is a nighttime art festival that began in Nantes, France in 1984 and has since spread throughout the world. Our statement: The Canadian Light Source is celebrating UNESCO’s International Year of Crystallography with a presentation that merges science and art. Using images from several experimental stations at the synchrotron, the views depict stunning crystals and protein structures, superimposed with images of the synchrotron beam. Scientists use these structures to gain valuable insights into the workings of proteins, DNA, RNA, and viruses. Many of these are involved in human diseases such as heart disease, cancer, influenza, HIV, tuberculosis, and Parkinsons disease. The authors, Mark Ferguson, Shaun Labiuk and Kathryn Janzen thus highlight the importance and beauty of crystallography experiments. The CLS exhibit will be set up on the corner of 20th St. W and Ave. B S, Saturday Sept. 27, 8pm – 1am. We hope to see you there… nuitblanchesaskatoon.ca/
