Join us for Downtown Countdown, a New Year’s Eve celebration concert, at the Bo Diddley Community Plaza. Headlining the concert is The Beatles tribute band, The Impostors, a six-piece group comprised of some of the area’s most popular musicians. Band members include Mike Boulware (guitar/vocals), Don David (guitar/vocals), Michael Derry (guitar/vocals), Ron Thomas (bass guitar/vocals), Brad Bangstad (keyboards) and Rob Rothschild (drums). Sitting in for Rothschild on the drums will be Larry Thompson. The Impostors play a full range of Beatles’ music from the popular hits of the early heydays, through the experimental era of “Revolver” and “Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band,” to the final rooftop appearance and “Abbey Road.” Opening for The Impostors is the local group the Couch Messiahs, headed by Mick Marino (lead vocals/guitar). Marino is a former Impostor and popular musician at the “Free Fridays” concert series. He has created blockbuster “Free Fridays” concert tributes to the Allman Brothers, The Rolling Stones, The Band and Bob Dylan, as well as being the organizer for the annual GramFest, which is a tribute to country rock artist Gram Parsons. Other members of the Couch Messiahs include Paul Goble (guitar/vocals), Kenny Shore (bass/vocals) and Bill Kellogg (drums/vocals). The Couch Messiahs play a wide variety of music genres that includes Americana roots music, ‘60s, ‘70s and some ‘90s music, R&B and country alternative. The free concert begins at 9 p.m. and continues until 12:30 a.m. There will be a countdown to midnight, along with the sounds of noisemakers passed out to the audience earlier in the evening. The 2015 Downtown Countdown is sponsored by classic rock radio station WIND-FM (92.5, 95.5, 107.9). The Bo Diddley Community Plaza is located on the corner of Southeast First Street and East University Avenue.
