Join us this Thursday for the 51st Annual Jean Fortner Ward Lecture : “Compromise Your Values: Learning Lessons from Religion” Presented by Dr. John F. Kutsko Executive Director, Society of Biblical Literature March 20, 2014 7:30pm at the Hannah Brown Finch Memorial Chapel Greensboro College, 815 W. Market St. About the lecture: We regularly hear calls for a “national conversation” around issues in the news. Recent gridlock due to partisan politics and social incivility prompted a call for compromise as a positive and constructive value. John’s lecture, “Compromise Your Values,” will examine its necessity as both a personal and public virtue, and from the most unlikely of sources: the Bible. Though religious rigidity fuels conflict in our history books and violence in our news reports, the traditions themselves offer models of compromise and collaboration—what the world needs now. Compromise is a surprisingly core principle in the biblical tradition, which can teach us urgent lessons to foster peace and understanding in our complex, global communities. The event is free and open to the public. Go Triad News & Record 336events Greensboro, North Carolina Methodist The United Methodist Church Society of Biblical Literature
