Join us this summer at the Fort Osage National Historic Landmark to view two exhibits on the Civil War in Missouri. The first exhibit, in the lobby of the Education Center, focuses on the lives of civilians in Sibley, Missouri and the surrounding region during the war. Learn about the vicious partisan war in the Six Mile District of Jackson County, the hijacking of the steamboat Sam Gaty at Sibley in March 1863, and the burning of the town of Sibley in June 1863. The second exhibit is in the Education Center auditorium and is on loan from the Missouri State Archives. It is titled, "Divided Loyalties: Civil War Documents from the Missouri State Archives." Through a series of panels with illustrations and images of original documents from the state archives, viewers will learn about the prelude to the war in Missouri, how the war impacted Missouri, and the legacy of the war. The exhibits will run through August 31.
