Message of Sulu Vice Governor Abdusakur M. Tan *Assalamu alaikum warahmatullahi wabarakatu. *Good afternoon to the officers and men of the Philippine National Police; invited guests, ladies and gentlemen. *I’m pleased to officiate at the Joint Opening Ceremonies for the Police Intelligence Officers Course Class 2014-75 and Police Intelligence Course Class 2014-119 and acknowledges the continuing efforts of the PNP hierarchy to instill the necessary knowledge and skills for their uniformed personnel, and in this instance in the field of intelligence. Without good intelligence networking the police will be groping in the dark in the performance of their duties of law enforcement and police operations. *Police courses such as the ones we are jointly opening today are geared towards professionalizing the uniformed services attuned to the demands of the general public concerned with their security for peace and order to reign in their respective community and the province in general. *Let not courses such as these be conducted only for promotion purposes or be used merely to stack up the biodata of officers and men of documents to advance their career. Members of the police have every right to be exert all means to further their careers but not at the expense of their sworn duties and mandate. To have ambitions is natural to every human being but to be viciously ambitious to a point where their ranks and uniform are smeared and discredited is great disservice to the country and a disgrace to their profession. *Incidences involving scalawags in their ranks have caused pain and embarrassment to the police force, but we do believe that a few rotten tomatoes do not spoil the entire basket. There are still many good men in the force. *The uniform and the badge is not a license to break or circumvent the laws; rather they are the shields of the law to protect the innocent and the armor to prosecute the guilty. *In your profession, dedication to your duties is primordial. But dedication should be tempered with courage and bravery. The men in uniform should not cow in fear when facing the enemy as they are the keepers of peace and order and the defenders of the citizen. *I hope you will be proud of your uniforms and I hope, too, that you will put into practical and legal use the knowledge you will acquire from these courses. *Good luck to all of you, thank you.
