Joint Press Release: Laurel County Sheriff’s Office and London City Police The Laurel County Sheriff’s Office and the London City Police Department in conjunction with Laurel County Attorney, J. L. Albright, conducted a roundup of 19 suspects wanted on various child support warrants all around the Laurel County area early Thursday morning, October 9, 2014. Sheriff’s deputies and city police officers located numerous suspects, and lodged them in the Laurel County Detention Facility. These suspects, both men and women, were wanted on bench warrants charging them with non-payment of child support. “Operation Cops for Kids” was the result of the continued support between the sheriffs office, city police and county attorneys office to arrest suspects for child support violations. According to Albright, the violators arrested owe nearly $307,000.00 in child support arrears. “Hopefully now these individuals will be able to get back on track paying child support”. Albright was quick to give credit to the officers who assisted with the roundup. “As always, I really appreciate Sheriff, John Root, and his officers, they are very supportive of our efforts. I also want to make a special point of thanking Chief Derek House whose officers participated with this roundup. The cooperation between the two departments was outstanding and unparalleled”. Those arrested included: See attached list Officers participating with the roundup and arrests included: for Laurel Sheriffs office –Sheriff John Root, Capt. Rodney Van Zant, Lieut. Chuck Johnson, Deputy Tyler Morris, Detective James Sizemore, Detective Josh Scott, Detective Jason Back, and Deputy Gilbert Acciardo. For London City Police Department –Chief Derek House, Capt. Darrel Kilburn, Sgt. Joe Smith, Sgt. Gary Proffitt, Sgt. Travis Hurley, Detective Jimmy Phelps, Officer Rick Floyd, Officer Jeremy Shell, and Officer Ed Herd.
