Joint investigation between Laurel Sheriffs Office, and Madison County Sheriffs Office leads to stolen property arrest, and stolen pistol being recovered: Sheriff John Root is reporting that Laurel Sheriff’s Detective Josh Scott charged Brian Shaffer age30 Hwy 2003, McKee, Kentucky on Thursday afternoon March 13, 2014 at approximately 5:34 PM. Shafer, who was already lodged in the Laurel County detention facility, and was charged on a warrant obtained by Detective Scott with receiving stolen property – firearm, following an investigation conducted by Detective Scott along with the Madison County Sheriffs Department regarding a pistol that had allegedly been stolen in a burglary in Madison County and had been pawned in a pawn shop in Laurel County. Detective Scott determined through investigation that Brian Shaffer had pawned that weapon prior to his current incarceration. With the cooperation of the pawn shop, the pistol has been recovered. In addition, Shaffer was charged with theft by deception under $500. Brian Shaffer continues to be lodged in the Laurel County detention facility.
