Jona-Salem, Grishams law and the watchers... CredoWriters:Wakdok,Samuel Stephen. I will try to keep this simple, straight and short. It should be evident by now that I do not have sympathy for the President nay the ruling party,I have never had. Jonathan went to Jerusalem and the drums have been sounding...I deliberately kept mute but it isnt always that silence is golden. Sometimes silence is cowardice or ignorance . Setting the facts right. Jonathan as an individual has every right to go for a religious pilgrimage. I am not interested in comparing and contrasting him with who went where before him. But taking Jonathan as a single being, he has the right as a religious being to visit Jerusalem on pilgrimage. The very same watchers shouting...I dare them, where were they in February 2013 when Jonathan went to Cairo? Jonathan as the President of a Secular state led the Federal Government of Nigerias delegation to the 12 summit of the Organization of Islamic Conference- OIC...who bore the cost? Tax payers. How many watchers talked? Many people didnt know, the watchers who knew did not talk. Secondly, we are all shouting about the pilgrimage, why do we not also talk about the twin part of the trip. The President went on a state visit to Israel and Palestine and held discussions with both President Peres and President Abbas. In Israel discussions on how to tackle terrorism, cooperation on agriculture and the signing of bilateral air service agreement were sealed. Why are we blind to these? Agreed Jonathan must not go to Jesus grave to Pray, Jesus is risen from his grave, Jesus is everywhere. But why do we Christians go to church? Why do we go for crusades? Why do we go for signs and wonders? Or dont we have Jesus in our hearts or homes? Would we have preferred if Jonathan went on a pilgrimage to Jerusalem only to go back to Israel on a state visit? Will that not have been waste of funds? What we do not understand is that even if the President travels to his mothers hut in the village, his retinue of aides who must accompany him are on official duty and they must be paid their traveling allowances. So, even if Jonathan had gone only on a private pilgrimage, as the President he must go with aides who must be paid. How ever, Grishams law states that bad money chases good money out of circulation. Hence in the Nigerian setting, our leaders are always wont to fail and disappoint us; therefore even when they have good intent the bad intents or deeds chase out their good intent in our eyes. If Nigerian Presidents have gone on state visits to some countries which do not and will not add value to us all these years, what is the crime in going on a state visit to Israel which we know can add value in terms of security, agriculture, education, tourism and aviation among others. As for why or whether Jonathan should pray publicly in Jerusalem, why dont we let God who sees and knows mans heart be the Judge? Jonathan is free to go to Cairo for OIC but cant go on a personal pilgrimage to Jerusalem combined with a state Visit to Israel and Palestine? A man u fan even if not a footballer longs to visit Old Trafford. A Chelsea fan will love to visit Stamford bridge, and I a reggae fan though without dreadlocks will love to visit Jamaica, what is wrong if Jonathan goes to Jerusalem ? Are we dragging with God? Must we ridicule God just to spite Jonathan? For the Christians arguing that Jesus grave is empty, why dont we stop going to church on Sundays.....Jesus is every where even in our kitchen.
