Jonah 1:17 But the LORD provided a great fish to swallow Jonah, - TopicsExpress

Jonah 1:17 But the LORD provided a great fish to swallow Jonah, and Jonah was inside the fish three days and three nights. God is incredibly merciful. He had commissioned Jonah to go to the city of Nineveh and warn them of His coming judgment. Jonah refused. Instead he rebels against God, hops on the first ship going in the opposite direction, and flees from His call. God could have easily destroyed Jonah, or just let him go his errant way into certain destruction, but He doesn’t. In His love for Jonah, God sends a storm to wake him up (literally and spiritually) and He prepares a fish to swallow Jonah after he is thrown overboard. This is just the beginning. Throughout this book, we see God dealing so patiently with His wayward servant. All this for a prophet who had turned his back on God. God loves us just the same. When we were enemies of God, aliens to His promises, sinners going our own way, Christ died for us. When we were running from God, He sent His Spirit to convict us of sin, righteousness, and judgment and draw us to Himself. When we become wayward, God lovingly, patiently, chastises us to bring us back to where we need to be. His is truly a love that will not let me go! Are you running from God? He is reaching out to you! He has prepared a way for you to come back to Him. Turn back in repentance and God will receive you with open arms!
