Jonathan has been president for 6 years is the new mantra being bandied about, meaning that he became president in 2008 when YarAdua was still president! I never knew there was a time Nigeria had 2 Presidents in charge at the same time! Suddenly simple calculation has become difficult for even those who made first class in hard science courses. I hate lies, especially blatant lies used to score cheap political points. This type of lie is photocopied from Nazis propagandist Goebels who said that when a lie is repeated many times, it is soon believed to be the truth. But facts are sacred. President YarAdua was flown to Saudi Arabia on Nov 23, 2009. Nobody knew his state of health except his wife and few members of the so-called cabal. Not even Vice President Jonathan knew, neither did YarAdua hand over to him. The budget was purportedly sent to Saudi Arabia for YarAdua to sign. The Minister of Justice/Attorney General Michael Andoakaa said YarAdua could rule from any part of the world. Nigerians waited and prayed for his recovery. Segun Adeniyi his spokesman sold the nation the dummy that YarAdua was coming down to the study to read and do other activities. Legislators who went to see him were not allowed to see him. When the falsehood continued with no substance, demonstrations broke out, led by Save Nigeria Group. On Feb 9, 2010, the Senate invoked the doctrine of necessity to make Vice President Jonathan Acting President. On Feb 24, 2010, YarAdua was flown back to Nigeria. Jonathan and others were prevented from seeing him all through. On May 5, 2010 YarAdua was announced dead. On May 6, 2010, Jonathan was sworn in as President. If you count from May 6, 2010, you get 4 years and 7 months. If you choose to count from when he became Acting President on Feb 9, 2010, you get 4 years and 10 months. As Vice President, he was not in charge when YarAdua was flown out. He could not even control the ministers like Andoakaa and co. They ignored him and disobeyed him blatantly. Even when he said no minister should travel out anymore, some defied him and travelled out, and he had no power to do anything to them. So from Nov 23, 2009 to Feb 9, 2010 (close to 3 months) cant be counted in his favour. So where is the six years from if not plain mischief? Maybe henceforth, once someone says Jonathan has been in office for 6 years, we should call the person: LIAR! Maybe that will stop this blatant falsehood. Lets do politicking, but lets stick to basic facts, so that people can believe us when we give them serious statistics.
