Jonathan is closing in on his last 300 miles. The Appalachian Trail is 2,185 miles long. The approach to Mt. Katahdin (The northbound end of the trail) is described as the most difficult and challenging section of the trail. I have spoken with Jon several times in the last few days. His service has gone out each time before our conversations were through. He has made it over Mt. Washington the highest peak on the trail at 6,288 ft. This mountain held the fastest land speed record of wind ever recorded on earth at 231 miles per hour. Jonathan told me it was very windy and the weather changed 3 times as he made his way over the mountain. He says this has been an experience that he wishes everyone could have. The pictures do not begin to convey the feeling you get while turning 360 degrees around and seeing America at her best. I have sent his latest parcel with winter clothes,(which are so lightweight it’s ridiculous) I also sent a back-up phone as he has dropped his and cracked the screen. He should have met up with that care package today. There are other goodies in there too
