Jonathan’s Rallies, A Violation Of INEC Rules – Lagos Assembly Taiwo Ogunmola Omilani — March 13, 2014 The Lagos State House of Assembly has criticised President Jonathan for what it described as ‘political junketing’ throughout the nation, attending PDP public rallies in violation of INEC’s rule on electionering. This was disclosed in a statement signed by the Chairman, House Committee on Information, Strategy, Security and Publicity Hon Segun Olulad (APC, Epe Constituency II). According to him, “The action of Mr President portrays that of ‘above-the- law’ situation which contravenes his self-acclaimed principles of adhering to the rule of law in every situation and instances. “I have never seen where the president of a country will be the number one law breaker. The APC has come under serious criticism and attack by the Nigerian police over mere political meetings. They even went as far as disrupting a private meeting being held by the progressive governors in the lodge of one of them last year. “The police has disrupted APC meetings in Rivers State and many other parts of the country, claiming there is ban on political rallies, but I wonder if the police still exist now that Mr President is addressing rallies across the country, all in the name of receiving defectors to PDP.” He further lamented that apart from the fact that the president has been widely criticised for lack of sympathy for the slain pupils in Yobe State by refusing to pay condolence visit to the families, he has recently abandoned most important state matters for political rallies “while the nation grieves over insecurity and corruption”.
