Jonis Journey. January 28, 2014. Joni is back home and trying to rest the best she can. It was a very long 7 weeks for her. But, being surrounded by family, friends and her animals is helping her tremendously. The radiation will continue to work for a couple of more weeks and then they decided to give her a rest and let her body heal. She returns to Zion on March 4th for her scan and a couple other procedures, then the doctors will decide the next path to take. The ride home last Thursday was quite an experience. Up until Michigan City, Indiana, the ride was smooth. Then we got caught behind that horrible multi-vehicle pile up that claimed 3 lives. After an hour of waiting and not knowing what truly had happened, we were rerouted back up the highway and directed to the nearest exit. We found our way back to Michigan and finalized our trip. What is normally just over a 4 hour trip ended up taking 9 hours. Joni did amazingly well and we finally got home just after 10 p.m. A bit of sad news for us last week though. While I was in Zion with Joni, one of our Alpacas died. We dont know what happened but it is quite heart breaking. To compound the situation, the other Alpaca couldnt cope with the loss and laid down next to the other and within 2 days, he died also. Both are gone now. We havent decided what we will do yet as far as replacing them. We will wait until Spring and make that decision. As of now, Joni has had some very rough days and is struggling with a couple of issues but she is a very strong woman and she will rebound. I do know she is happy to be home and Im happy she is home, too. Life is so much better when we are together in one place. --Jim
