Jony asked me to join his team two months ago, bringing me on due to my wide range of skills/experience and particularly my expertise in malware (viruses) and network/systems defence. Since starting for Ronin, one of my first tasks was to select the best business-grade anti-virus solution to provide and/or recommend to our customers. I selected G Data ( https://gdata-software/ ), as it has been an industry leader for several years. The detection rate is consistently at or above 99.98%, it uses two separate scanning engines for even better accuracy, and is light-weight and doesnt bog down your system. My choice had absolutely nothing to do with the cost of the product or our mark-up on sales. What youll get from other companies is whatever product makes them the most money. That is not our goal whatsoever. G Data is tied into our remote monitoring packages, where we are responsible for maintaining all of your systems. And trust that when Im responsible for removing malware that your protection software misses, Im going to select the product that creates the least amount of work for me! My next task is selecting a product for network defence (perimeter firewall). What a perimeter firewall does for your business is protect the entire network and all applications from malware and exploits. For example, if someone sends you a virus in an e-mail message... a perimeter firewall will scan that file before forwarding it to your machine. It will be detected by the gateway anti-virus built into the firewall, and blocked at the edge of your network, never even able to make it to your computer in order to cause an anti-virus alert. The product/company I have selected, after days of research, is Palo Alto Networks ( https://paloaltonetworks ). PA is the industry leader in network security, and compared to many other solutions out there, is also one of the most competitively priced. PA is literally able to detect unknown viruses by harnessing the power of the cloud and running unknown files in a virtual sandbox, watching to see what kind of activity the program makes. If it looks like a virus and smells like a virus, its probably a virus, and based on these heuristics tests, this gateway anti-virus is able to do things other products only dream about. We are working towards becoming a full partner with Palo Alto Networks, and are excited to be partnering with such a fantastic company. So, mix the industrys best anti-virus software with the industrys best network defence system (IPS/IDS) and 24/7 monitoring of your systems and network (RRM)... and we can truly live up to our Ronins got your back slogan! - Nathan Gillette, I.T.
